Notes about humidity

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of our classic condenser microphones, please follow these guidelines:

Humidity and Temperature Considerations

  • Generally speaking our microphones are quite robust against humidity and our large diaphragm models even come with heated capsules to help with parameter stability in diverse climatic conditions. If there are no sudden changes of ambient temperature, our microphones can operate at up to 90% humidity.
  • The slight heating from the amplifier, helps to prevent condensation also with our small diaphragm microphones.
  • There is no perfect solution to humidity for classic condenser microphones. However, you can maintain the microphone’s functionality at up to 90% humidity by using tight wind protection to reduce air convection!
  • If the microphone’s sensitivity decreases after operating in very high humidity for a long time, turn off the power for at least 5-10 seconds to allow recovery. If this does not resolve the issue (due to excessive moisture inside the microphone), the microphone needs to be dried. Place the microphone in a warm, well-ventilated area (without packaging). It is crucial to avoid heating the microphone above 50 degrees Celsius.
  • It is important to note that Nevaton microphones are classic condenser microphones, that’s why they offer excellent sound quality and have excellent technical parameter. This type of microphones is not as humidity-resistant as RF-type microphones.

Storage and Maintenance

  • Keep microphones dry in a warm room, stored in a box with silica gel packets when not in use.
  • Note: silica gel requires periodic drying at 80-120 degrees Celsius, or replacement.
  • Avoid touching the rear part of the capsule (microphone MC 59) where the contact is located, as dirt can cause a surface current leak and result in noise.
  • A trick for using the microphone in non-studio conditions, is to ensure that it is warmer than the surrounding air. This will prevent condensation!
  • When moving the microphone from a cold environment to a warm one, it is generally recommended to store it in a closed space, like a small package, to allow the temperature to equalize slowly.
  • Note: This step is not necessary when transitioning the microphone from a warm environment to a cold one.

Phantom Power Handling

  • Due to varying characteristics of sound equipment, always connect the microphone before supplying phantom power and disconnect it only after turning off the phantom power.
