Nevaton MC440E – Multipattern Large-Diaphragm Condenser Microphone

Nevaton’s new top of the range large diaphragm multipattern microphone comes with outstanding technical parameters. It replaces previous models, like the MC416 and MC51
Its newly designed electronic circuit leads to an ultra-low self-noise of down to only 4dB-A (in cardioid mode)!

Available directional patterns

  • Omnidirectional
  • Wide Cardioid
  • Cardioid
  • Super Cardioid
  • Figure-8
  • Adhering strictly to the highest standards of sound quality, the switches are encased within the microphone body to prevent the transmission of any undesired noise into the signal path. Consult the manual for exact switch positions.

Additionally features

  • Switchable low-cut filter (6dB/oct) with three positions: 20Hz/60Hz/120Hz
  • Heated capsules enable the MC440-E to operate in extreme climatic conditions, such as high humidity, or temperatures as low as -30 degrees.
  • Advanced RFI filter against interference from external sources, such as radio transmissions, wireless devices, etc.
  • Upol switch: Special mode designed for recording signals with exceptionally high amplitude (up to 158dB)!
  • Extremely low self noise of down to only 4dBA (depending on the selected directional characteristic)
  • -10dB attenuation (for omnidirectional, cardioid, figure-8)
  • Low output impedance allows cable lengths of up to 400 meter without audible signal degradation.
  • Newly designed highly efficient damper effectively protects the capsule from vibration and structural noise
  • An improved head basket with thinner side pillars greatly reduces the acoustic impact on the capsule
  • Optional: A specifically designed head grill which again enhances transparency in music recordings
  • Very durable paint finish

Acoustic features and construction

The MC440E features a 33mm large diaphragm capsule which is the next generation of the famous Nevaton capsule design. It replaces models like the MC416 and MC51 and has a vastly improved electronic circuit which leads to an ultra-low self-noise level of only 4 dB-A with cardioid characteristic)! The MC440-E offers a pristine, open, and transparent sound, revealing the finest details of a sound source without distortion.

Electrical features

The amplifier is extremely linear and built to the class-A transformerless standard. All used input transistors pass a special selection to guarantee minimal self-noise levels.  The integrated upol switch enables the membrane to respond extremely quickly to very loud sounds (gun shots, loud engines, etc.) and allows the recording of signals with exceptionally high amplitude (up to 158dB when used together with the -10dB attenuation)! The microphone operates on 48V phantom power. A gold-plated XLR-connector is used as an output-connector.

Stereo pair

Nevaton also delivers this microphone as matched stereo pair.

Operational safety

The microphone`s body is made of brass with a dark-grey non-reflective paint finish. This makes it inherently immune to mechanical and atmospheric influences. A three-layer metallic grill effectively protects the transducers from mechanical impacts and influences (optional a two layer grill is available for again enhanced transparency in music recordings)

The Nevaton MC440-E comes in a robust & shockproof transport-case.

A top-class condenser microphone with exceptional technical parameters, hand assembled in the new Nevaton manufactory in Austria.
